Transportation Means in London

For locals and visitors alike, travelling in, out and around London is easy. Public transport is cheap and the choices are many. Taxis, buses, Tube and trams are the popular transport mode. And the easiest way to pay for any of these transport services is using an Oyster card. The card can store up to 90 pounds of travel credit, and it charged less than the price of any other travel. It can be used on bus, trams, Tube, light railway and London Overground.

On the other hand, if you want a unique and more greener way to explore London, the alternatives are many. A river journey provides you the opportunity to view the capital from an inspiring angle. From the River Thames you will see many of London’s famous attractions including St. Paul’s Cathedral, the House of Parliament, and the Tower of London. But, if you want a more unique and quieter travel experience, you can rent a bicycle to explore London through parks. The City has more than 4000km routes for cycling and is currently one of the fasted cycling City in Europe.

Bus Transportation System

London has one of the largest and comprehensive urban transport system in the whole world. The Red double-deck and single deck buses are usual means of transport around the metropolis. Recent effort to upgrade and modernise the City’s bus transportation system has led to the demise of the famous double-decked Routemaster bus as the king of local transport. However, the iconic bus is still in use in two of central London’s heritage routes – the heritage route 9 and heritage route 15.

For a more convenient way of travelling around the City, travelers can hop into the legendary black taxi cab. Black cab drivers are renowned for their extensive knowledge of the City’s routes, because they have undergone extensive training and are required to memorise some 25,000 London streets before they are allowed to sit behind the wheel. Thus, even if you are new to the City, you can be assured that you will never get lost if you are in a black taxi.
